Take The Sleek Train Official Music Video

TAKE THE SLEEK TRAIN

Take the sleek train

Over there

Winds past the snowcaps

Leave your cares

Let it rumble real proud

Watch it vibrate all your clouds

Eagles and the ocean

Waterfalls unfrozen

I’ll find the locomotion

Can soothe my emotion

Take me to the rivers, the mountains way up high

Got my ticket in my pocket tight

Let’s get out of here

Let me see some light

We’ve been living in cement

And I need to see some space

The Perfect Love Affair

tags

The Perfect Love Affair

When I am weary

And I am teased

I keep looking for something

Something’s looking for me

I’m not too busy

I am not too proud

I guess I’m just lonely

I’ll say it out loud

I need a distraction

I need an okay

That I’m still desired

I’ll swing and I’ll sway

I’m a bold looking cougar

I join the cub’s play

I’m looking for something

That leads me astray

Eyes that haunt me

Lips that taunt me

Arms around me

Love it drowns me

I have waited hesitated

For you dear and now you’re here

It’s true the perfect love oh love affair

The perfect love, the perfect love oh love affair

A voice it calls me

Whispers softly

Hold me closely

Kiss me gently

I have waited hesitated

For you dear and now you’re here

It’s true the perfect love oh love affair

The perfect love the perfect love oh love affair

4 Tips To Stay Positive

                  Norine Braun

Hi there! The 4 Tips to Stay Positive are: Gratitude, Attitude, Purpose and Fun

  1. Gratitude - focus on what you have and give back. Bullying Ends Here Charity Dinner Concert with Paliatsky, Norine Braun, Wayne Lambert & Tad Milmine Date:December 07, 2013 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM Cost:$25 includes chowder, fish & chips and shot of screech! @ Joe's Atlantic Grill  2410 St. Johns Street Port Moody, British Columbia
  2. Attitude - you can't always control what happens to you but you can control how you respond to what happens. YAHOO! REVIEWS! REVIEWS! 3 weeks since the release of Conventus and I already have over 30 reviews in and wow they have been absolutely stellar. I can't put them all here but I have posted many on my website in the news and press section for you. PLUS Check out all the new videos for the songs featured on the homepage of my website.
  3. Purpose - live each day with meaning and purpose whether its doing your passion, practicing kindness or giving a gift of your love and time. As you know my purpose and my passion is the gift of music. With only 22 shopping days left until Christmas you too can give the gift of music this year! As a reader of my blog I am offering Conventus The Eye of the Heart for only $10 each including shipping. Send an email to norine@norinebraun.com with your order and I will invoice you and send it to you asap. If you are in Vancouver the next 3 weeks I can also meet in person and do the deal.:)
  4. FUN - All work and no play makes Jackie a dull person. Stay active, play, watch, connect and create! The day after my cd release I was so pumped when I heard about the CBC Hockey Song contest I had to sit down and write a song its called Stick on the Ice. Hockey is a good example of something you can play, watch, connect with friends and even create. Help me win #hockeynight #SongQuest by voting for my song here http://music.cbc.ca/#/artists/Norine-Braun The winner gets their song recorded. You can vote for it from anywhere in the world and you can vote daily. Thanks so much!!
That's the latest from my heart to yours. I hope all is well your way.
Love,
Norine

Fire Flames

Fire Flames

Does it feel okay?

Or do you push away

When she touches you

You are slippery

A fool’s tongue gold

Hides blue risks mounting

Fortunes told

I am reigning

For this flight

We might get there

To heaven’s light

I am going

Lead the way

Freedom finds me

Redemption wanes

We are climbing

Into her veins

Betrayal washes

The fire flames

When you are not lying

And I stop crying

Does it feel okay?

Or do you push away

When she touches you, when she touches you

And is the writing on the wall

And whose name do you call

In the heat of the night

In the heat of the night

I am going lead the way

Freedom finds me

Redemption wanes

We are climbing

Into her veins

Betrayal washes

The fire flames, the fire flames…..

DIZZY

DIZZY

DIZZY

Under the moonlight

The dark liquid sky

There’s no escaping

The sweltering shy

We get up gently embark to be led

Nighttime tawdry’s and bawdiness bed

I get all lost in the word we call friends

I get all dizzy and you say amen

I’ll never get there as long as I stay here with you

Dizzy, I feel so dizzy I’m getting dizzy with you

We get all crazy and downward we fall

I want to get it without risking it all

If you will get there I’ll save you these songs

What comes what may CHORUS

And when we get there and all that you said

I gotta fight it get out of my head

You’ll know there’s something wrong about now

I’ll try to fight it a floating black cloud

I guess what you say is true

But I find love in the best that you do

Think I’ll get there then along comes rain

As time goes away CHORUS

Time to set you free Living on a dream

Time to set you free

Living on a dream, dream, dream

Railroad tracks

Upon her arms

Of charms

She comes down at night

Hair, chiffon, cold delight

Perfume filled the stale old blight

Antique bathtubs drown and

Hide in cellar rooms

Dusted and dancing in the dim light

Time hurried by

Left her countless suitors tied

To posts and beguiled why

A lusty throaty laugh

Too soon to hide the salty streams

On cheeks rouge ruined

And rogue free

Paradise was never this sweet

The dragons chasing their tails

And tales bring the godly we meet

Paradise was never, was never this sweet

I get all dizzy inside of my head

I want to get it and you say we’ll go there

We’re gonna get there I ‘ll take you home

Then back to you it seems

Today Music Video

TODAY

I am going to face the wall

Reaching inward judgment call

Faithful willing flying free

Finally able just watch me

Lifeless riots violence chained

My cage is quiet my senses tamed

Mind is aching my soul is cleaned

Muscles ripping just watch me

Today I’m rushing forward with light

Isn’t it bright

Today I’m pushing forward with grace

In the lull we go back these four walls fill it all

How Would We Know

Happy Halloween To You and Happy Anniversary Alice!
Halloween marks our first and 26th anniversary so seems fitting to post this new music video as Alice was the muse for this song, believe it or not 26 years ago! The song was prophetic! At the time Alice didn't think much of the tune but last year we came across this old song and we both loved it and knew the time had come to record it. Adam added a reggae/ska feel and voila .....

HOW WOULD WE KNOW

Eyes so bright they shine at me

Lips that whisper sweet

Arms that hold me all through the night

How would I know

True love I’d find

Do you remember oh way back when?

So many lonely nights

Then we sent our hearts out to the open sky

How would we know Our souls entwined

How would we know Our souls entwined

Send me a rose scented and red

One that will grow and knows no death

Send me a rainbow

Promise no end of love

Looking for you oh in my dreams

And you in yours for me

Then came the moment we would finally meet

And make our dreams reality

Found me a rose scented and red

One that will grow and knows no death

You found a rainbow

Promise no end of love

How would we know that soon we’d find

How would we know our souls entwined

Lightning Strikes Video #2

This week its Lightning Strikes Twice! This bluesy rock tune set in a claymation video just in time for Halloween. Enjoy!

lyrics

Lightening Strikes Twice

Lightening strikes, it strikes twice

Yeah lightening strikes, strikes twice

Devil and the deep blue sea Oh my baby and me

We saw lightening strike, strike twice

Devil and the deep blue sea Oh my baby and me

We saw lightening strike, strike twice

Walked from the bayou to the back of the bay

We found ourselves stranded when it started to rain

We had cover in a cabin on cliff where we prayed

A crackling white light and a bellowing boom gave way

CHORUS

Spotted in the distance was a man dressed in red

His hands raised up to heaven, he called on the dead

Floating ‘round in circles was his boat on the bay

A second white lightening connected the red devil’s grave.

BACKSTORYThe intro to this song was a lullabye I  wrote when noodling on my guitar  just before my surgery last Christmas. I recorded several acoustic bare bone demos of the songs I planned to record once recovered and to listen to while recuperating in hospital. This lullabye of sorts was a stand out for me. I found the song to be soothing and like something greater than myself was singing to me through me if I may be so grandiose. This song was the one that brought me greatest comfort. When I returned home and regained my strength I felt a great joy and thought the conclusion of the song must be joyous and demonstrate a connection with that source....and voila here is the result. I hope you enjoy the spirit of which it is created.

99% Announced as Nominee for Best Country/Jazz/Blues/AC Song

Awesome news this week my song 99% has been nominated Best Country/Jazz/Blues/AC Song for the 2013 Rightoutttv Music and Video Awards! Woo hoo! There is still time to vote for me as Fan Fave if you are feeling it :) Go to : http://www.rightouttvawards.com/FanFave.html and thanks!!

I received a very lovely heartfelt fan letter this week and I asked for her permission to post as her words not only read like a wonderful review but are how I would so much like my music to affect people and she showed me I am on the right path. Thank you so much sharing this Teri.

IT’S  NORINE  BRAUN

After a Norine Braun (twenty year public figure) crash course in seven days, eight albums, EP, various singles, liners , websites, links, interviews, videos and a few emails, I’m still reading, still smiling. What a wonderful adventure. A multidimensional thrill ride of numerous musical styles, incredible gamut of rich vocals and clever, fun, deep, often slap you awake raw poetry, Norine offers such generous gifts. I laughed; I cried; I had a catharsis; I sighed.

Norine’s depth of musical talent is vast.
I enjoy the mixes, layers and surprises.
Rock, Pop, Blues, you choose, just follow the dotted lines.
She challenges you to embrace every moment with her lyrics:

her celebration “You see got I get a move on, Try to find a free flowing knowing, And let go” from Drift Away No. 8 -
her joyful noise  “To see your own shadow you have to see your own light . . .Believe in something, credo, vision, a prayer” from J’en Suis Desolee NOW & ZEN -
her sensual side “If I could be the one who leaves you trembling” from If I Could Be The One EVOLUTION OF THE BLOOD STAR -
her sadness “Last winter came a snow I had to let you go” from          Dreams ACOUSTICALLY INCLINED and CROW -
her anger “Filled with contempt, You eat my soul, You chew me up, Spit out my bones . . . Who are you to judge me, Condemn me, Kill me.” from Who Are You CROW -
her strength “It takes a brave one, To self examine, Open wide the wound, Throw a little salt in” from I’d Guess You’d Say MODERN ANGUISH.

What Norine shares is an exceptional dance of life. I am so looking forward to the release of her new album CONVENTUS .
Many blessings dear Norine Braun, I appreciate all your hard work, wherewithal, fortitude, your heart and your vision. Thanks.

CD's shipped and Releases set!

Wow, it has been awhile since updated, so much had to get done! I am happy to say the cds and tee shirts were shipped to the presale orders last Friday and should arrive shortly!  The packages look amazing, Gisele Grignet designed them as well as the posters and one sheet. She does fantastic work!
The artwork is mine and is called The eye of the heart. I created this image as part of a piece I made during an art process evening with Vancouver artist Kat Thorsen last spring. When I came home from making my art, I realized it was The Eye of the Heart in my song Conventus and knew I had the album cover!

The packaging is as eco-friendly as possible (like my last 2 cds). I decided on the cardboard eco-sleeves because there is absolutely no plastic except for the disc of course.

I have decided to hold 2 cd release parties because I am that excited about Conventus! I also wanted the release to be as accessible as possible. I have some friends and fans who need wheelchair accessibility and some who are on a limited income. The Eastside release Nov. 2 will help those friends at the Princeton Pub which is wheelchair accessible and it is a pay what you want.
The official release is November 8 at The Railway Club downtown, the early show 6:30pm to 8:30 $10 cover. Would be super fantastic to have folks come to both!!

The lineup for both releases is dynamic and outstanding!! Adam Popowitz producer of the album will playing lead guitar. Elliot Polsky is on drums, Alice Fraser on keys, Huggybear Leonard on blues harp, penny whistle and as Adam cannot play guitar and bass at the same time (he did play both on the recording), I am super thrilled that Scott Tucker is playing bass for both the events!  Google their names and you will find out what great artists these are and the 2 nights are going to have huge funk and bluesy sounds and full of great fun and music!

Talk again soon!  luvnb

Manufacturing Stage

Thanks again to all the early supporters of Conventus The Eye of the Heart~~ $2715 in presales gives a confidant and great boost to getting the music out there! I am honoured by the love and excited I am almost there with sharing the music with you!
The past couple of weeks were spent finalizing the graphics, deciding on the T shirt design and finding a venue for the release party.

I am happy to say the disc and graphics were dropped off today at the manufacturing plant for replication. YAY!! The next step is getting the upc code added, and a final proof for the printers. Once approved it will be about 10 business days and I can pick them.

It looks like we will be having the cd release party too. Just working on a date and I will announce as soon as it is finalized.

Next step is to update my radio and media lists for the press release and to mail out for play and reviews. Over the years I have had much support from college radio and I will start with them. At some stations there is often a turnover as music directors are college students and once they graduate they move on, while others have been around since I first started sending out cds!

The videos are coming along, Will did a fantastic job and we start another one tomorrow. I have a UK videographer working on another. I edited part of Conventus video myself and a videographer from the netherlands did the final edit after adding his epic planetary shots so cool!! 9 videos are done and the plan is to release one video a week once the cd is released. Fiverr has been my biggest friend in being able to accomplish this big feat.

That's how the process is looking thus far...getting closer and closer to releasing Conventus The Eye Of The Heart!

Master in Hand!

The last couple of weeks we revisited the album and Adam tweaked a few and remixed a couple and today I happily picked up the final master for replication. Yahoo!! We started the process in April and we are now officially finished production.

In the meantime there is still alot that goes on behind the scenes in preparation for the release. Last Monday I had a photo shoot for the album with Alex Waber who did the photo for 99% and he took some great shots and I also received the final proofs on 4 possibilities today. There is a pensive shot of me in red, gazing downward and I like the feel though the album is a more joyful,  one could anticipate many emotions toward what might happen next in the image. There is also an intense shot of me looking directly into the viewer's eyes I like that one as well.
The graphic designer Gisele from eyeteaser is onboard as well she has done most my cds from Crow onward, her husband Terry did evolution of the blood star. I really like their work. I have started to compile the artwork and still need to take some pics of the cover and work on the credits, lyrics, logo, layout of the cd etc. will send that to her Monday.

I hired a freelancer to update my bio and press release as well this week and already have that in hand. I am outsourcing from fiverr and it is a godsend to indies like me. I hired a claymation animator from Ontario for the song Lightening Strikes twice and wow is it ever great! Very playful and funny that video is all done now. I have another documentary style one on the go for Boy from an American filmmaker and a very young videographer in Mexico is working on Dizzy. I am editing for the conventus video and will hand it over to an astromoner-video editor in Sweden once I compile everything probably at the end of this month. I decided How Would We Know to be the first single released and I am doing a video with Will Stelfox again we are shooting Monday. Will shot and directed Drift Away (nominated for Best Folk Video at Rightouttv awards) and Sprack Chica Boogie. I love his work. I have a couple more filmmakers in the works for 2 more videos. Still deciding on the remaining 3 songs. I have decided to release a video every week following the release of the album for 11 weeks and hence the reason for my major video undertaking. I really love  the project management aspect and relaying my ideas and watching how their ideas and creativity enfolds.

As well I have been talking with press and publicity people this week, planning the marketing campaign as I intend to hire professionals for this album instead of DIYing it. I have done a good job in the past and will do some of the work of course but would someone else to take it to the next level.
I have also been in contact with venues for the cd release and getting the band lined up for rehearsals.

There is much administration to take care of in the next few weeks too, such as registering the works with SOCAN, direct deposit with the library of Canada ( they hunted me down twice when I neglected to send copies of previous albums lol). CDBABY, itunes, bandcamp etc.

And then I have also been updating social media daily with the pre-order campaign the past few weeks. I am proud to say I am at 54% of my goal and so very grateful for all the support for the new album!! Having a list of people who have already purchased the new album without hearing the songs  and trusting they will like my music because they like my past music is huge and means so very much to me.

I did my final newsletter today to my elist and have to say to you dear reader:

The Conventus pre-order campaign is ending in just 4 days and I want to make sure you have a chance to be involved!

For those days when you need a lift, a joy, a smile Conventus will be your cure all, it's emotional, heartfelt and eclectic. Be the first to open your eye of the heart.
Go to http://www.kapipal.com/norinebraun and order your copy now.

Well that's been the past couple of weeks working on the new album.
From my heart to yours much love,
Norine

Studio Day 20 and 21 MIXING AND MASTERING

Friday July 26 Alice and I sat in as extra ears for the mixing of 5 songs for Conventus. Adam worked on How Would We Know, Dizzy, Boy, Perfect Love Affair and Fire Flames.

Monday July 29 we returned for the mixing and mastering of the remainder. Adam had been setting the mixes as we progressed so this really saved time at the end. He also didn't need to reconfigure his studio as he did for No.8 and mastered all the songs as well.

So what is mastering? Discmakers describes the process well. "Every major label release is mastered to prepare it for radio play and retail sale. The reason? In the studio you record one song at a time, resulting in songs that all peak at different levels and have different EQs. A mastering engineer can unify your album with skillful use of EQ, gain, and compression to give it a consistent sound from track to track. This process also allows the mastering engineer to pump up the volume of your overall album so it’s as hot as can be and make it sound unbelievable."

and mixing according to wikipedia

In sound recording and reproductionaudio mixing or mixdown is the process by which multiple recorded sounds are combined into one or more channels, for instance 2-channel stereo. In the process, the source signals' level, frequency content, dynamics, and panoramic position are manipulated and effects such asreverb may be added. This practical, aesthetic, or otherwise creative treatment is done in order to produce a mix that is more appealing to listeners.
Audio mixing is done in studios as part of creating an album or single. The mixing stage often follows a multitrack recording. The process is generally carried out by a mixing engineer, though sometimes it is the musical producer, or even the artist, who mixes the recorded material. After mixing, a mastering engineer prepares the final product for reproduction on a CD, for radio, or otherwise.
Prior to the emergence of digital audio workstations (DAWs), the process of mixing used to be carried out on a mixing console. Currently, more and more engineers and independent artists are using a personal computer for the process.

The final phase is here, Adam and I sat with the mixes and listened to the album over a week and then made a list of notes. This is my list I sent Adam today and we will discuss his thoughts and findings as well. You can see recording is quite a process!

- Boy on ipod and headphones the song starts in just one ear and seems a little disorienting, it sounds fine over big speakers...I wonder too you said about the band sounding small on this one and I think if you could bring the band up it might be better.

- Dizzy sometimes seems quieter than the other songs depending on the systems too though it could be the systems.
also CHECK OUT  at 2:16 in the song when I sing the word FIND does it sound like something flies out of my mouth?

- SLeek train is abit bass boomy or muddy on big speakers but sounds awesome on ipod so not sure if its the mix or the system playing if you could check that out too.

- on Today the acoustic guitar at the intro could use a boost it seems quiet in relation to the strong opening
as well the vocals are a tad on the dry side overall on the track they could be more slicker

- also check out the transition from acoustic to electronic on conventus I can hear a swoosh or sweeping very softly at 1:08

- when playing the album quietly,  the acoustic songs I found you and the intro on conventus seem much quieter than the others and I am compelled to turn them up

THIS FLOW IS STILL WORKING FOR ME TOO any thoughts?

Norine Launches Conventus The Eye of the Heart Pre-Order and Media Help Campaign

Norine Braun Conventus Pre-Order

0 Commentsby Norine Braun - Jul 22, 2013

Help get Conventus The Eye of the Heart launched with an advance purchase known as a pre-sale.

Conventus The Eye of the Heart is my new and ninth album born out of life’s unions and connections and the word Conventus is Latin for union or coming together. The past couple of years I encountered many unions in different disguises. I was diagnosed and cured of colon cancer. I underwent a colon resection surgery last December and I am forever grateful for early detection and the skilled doctors and good care I received. This experience was a catalyst for me to record this album. As I lay in my hospital bed in January, I listened to my roughly recorded demos of these songs and I let them show me the way to health. Music was a healing activity that held my interest and focus in my recovery. The intro for the song Conventus was a lullaby I wrote 2 weeks before surgery and the song comes from a deep inner place of love. The music felt so powerful and I encountered a coming together as I listened to these songs in my healing. When I returned home I completed Conventus as the rest of the song seemed to write itself. I contemplated at how there was a theme of union running through each of these songs and the concept of the album emerged.

This past year I also embraced a most magnificent union. I married my partner of 25 years on Halloween 2012 the anniversary of our first meeting. Our hearts were joined long ago but with a deeper realization of the preciousness of life I wanted to seize the moment and celebrate our great love and anniversary. In 2012 and 2013 I watched my partner and her mother slowly change their roles as my mother-in-law’s dementia advanced. I witnessed a great love, a wonder and amazement in the strength of a mother and daughter coming together to go through this challenging life transition. I looked at the union in my own family of origin relationship and how my life’s journey as an adoptee has greatly shaped who I am and my gratitude for receiving so many gifts in my life. All of these unions, union of self and body, self and spirit, family union, union of love and marriage are found in the creation of these songs and my new album.

This music is the most important music I have ever written but it’s not only my story, it’s also your story in fact it’s our story, it’s everybody’s story. We have all known someone who felt lonely, defeated, betrayed, rejected, scared, and yet found the strength to get back up, fight and win. We all know when we find that union with someone, something or within ourselves we can overcome and celebrate and cherish everything. This is what Conventus is about for me and this is the path that I am on. The path has led me here to you. I want to be able to help those who have gone through similar experiences by sharing mine. I am so thrilled to invite all of you to help in this process. That makes this new album much more special.

The recording process is now entering the final stages with mixing and mastering. Conventus is truly the best work I have ever done and deserves to be heard and embraced by as many people as possible. I am always challenged when describing my music because for me music has to be experienced not explained but to give you a sense of direction or genres I am in keeping in my most soulful, bluesy funk and roots rock oriented tradition. For radio the new album will fit into an AAA format. I am blessed that Vancouver’s finest musicians have joined me again on the musical journey for Conventus. The amazing Adam Popowitz has produced, engineered and performed guitar/ bass on Conventus, the groovemeister Elliot Polsky performs on drums and percussion. Queen of the Trills Alice Fraser (my spouse) performs on keys and the Harmonica King Huggybear performs on blues harp and penny whistle.

The goal of this campaign is to raise funds to get Conventus released and publicized with the pre-sales of the new album and assorted offerings. Funds raised go toward the manufacturing/pressing, shipping, promotion both online and local publicity, marketing and music video production.

Thank you for taking the time to read about this campaign and my new project. I will continue to work hard and do my very best. Please know I deeply appreciate your support in this pre-order campaign and my music. I wish you good health, great joy and love in all of your unions. “Alis grave nil” - Nothing is heavy to those who have wings.

Love Always,

Norine
